How I became involved in cycling: During the summer between my junior and senior year of high school (June - August 2006) I discovered some mountain bike trails in a park near my house, I decided to go exploring on my crappy bike I had since age 12.  I had a ton of fun, and I fell in love with riding those trails.  After the summer was over, I noticed I missed riding, and I decided that I wanted to get a sweet bike and race eventually, so I got a job at a hospital, saved all of my money for some time, then finally bought a bike in April of 2007. I would try to ride after school and extracurriculars and on weekends, then I graduated in June 2007, and would ride almost everyday. Then finally, I mustered up the courage to do my first race in July 2007.  I was hoping not to be last, and I roll through the start finish looking around for the other girls, and then I was told that I was first place! Totally surreal.  Then I had to be at work, but I was late because I waited for my award, I tried to explain that... Then I left for college, and soon began working with Don Galligher, who is still my coach. Now, I just try to juggle the responsibilities of training, college, and work and maintain an excellent performance in those three facets of my life.
